Tom Yates is an experienced FE leader with a strong track record across teaching, curriculum, quality and learner experience. He focuses on creating safe, inclusive and ambitious environments where students can thrive.
Tom holds a BSc in Biomedical Sciences and an MSc in Education Management and Leadership from the University of Southampton, and is a trained teacher. Before moving into education, he held senior leadership roles in retail, progressing to Regional Manager level. He began his FE career teaching Psychology, later becoming an Advanced Practitioner supporting teaching, learning and assessment. He was shortlisted for TES FE Teacher of the Year and has contributed to two Outstanding Ofsted inspections.
Across curriculum, quality and senior leadership roles, Tom has worked with local authorities, community organisations and sector partners to strengthen support for learners, including those with SEND. His work emphasises student voice to inform improvement and shape the learner experience.
